Not many have heard of Paolo Agostini (1583-1629). Born in Vallerano, near Viterbo, he studied under the Nanino brothers, who played an important role in the Roman school, and from whom he absorbed Palestrina’s heritage.
The Church of San Luigi dei Francesi (St Louis of the French) was an important part in the school of the Nanino brothers, whose celebrated musical chapel they directed. Paolo Agostini studied and sang in that church and joined the Nanino family by marrying Giovanni Bernardino's daughter, Vittoria. He was active in the Basilica of Santa Maria (St Mary) in Trastevere, the Church of San Lorenzo (St Lawrence) in Damaso, and finally St Peter's Basilica in the Vatican.
